The HomeopathyKanpur • Dr Sandeep Kumar Mishra, MD (Hom.)

The doctor

Twenty-five years, one way of working

A classical homeopath, practising across three clinics in Kanpur, seven days a week. The complaint on the referral slip changes; the way of listening does not.

Classical homeopathy treats the person, not the diagnosis. That is the whole of the method, and it has not changed in twenty-five years of practice. What has changed is the range of long-standing trouble it has been asked to help with — and the number of times any one of those has been seen before.

  1. The training

Dr Sandeep Kumar Mishra took his MD (Hom.) at the National Institute of Homeopathy, Kolkata, the country's central postgraduate institute for the subject. Classical homeopathy is a full medical training, and this is the long form of it: the study of the whole person rather than a shortcut to a prescription.

  2. Twenty-five years, three clinics

The practice runs from three clinics across Kanpur — Swaroop Nagar, Gumti No. 5, and by arrangement the Health Centre at IIT Kanpur — seven days a week. Wherever a patient is in the city, the doctor is somewhere nearby on most days, and the same person sees them each visit, so a long-standing complaint is followed rather than started again from the top.

  3. Recognised by his peers

In 2022 the Alumni Association of the National Institute of Homeopathy, Kolkata gave Dr Mishra its first Exemplary Contribution Award — best doctor from the MD programme, on the nomination of fellow doctors, and the first time in the association's history the award was made. He has also been felicitated at the All India Conference of Intellectuals. Recognition from other homeopaths, who can judge the work, is the kind worth having.

  4. Beyond Kanpur

Dr Mishra presents at homeopathy conferences in India and abroad. He has spoken at the Ministry of AYUSH's World Homeopathy Day International Convention on bringing homeopathy into mainstream health services, and has presented a clinical study on acute pain management in patients with chronic migraine. A doctor who keeps comparing notes with the wider field brings that back to the consulting room in Kanpur.

Dr Mishra has attended homeopathy conferences and seminars in Italy, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Portugal and Spain.

  5. In the community

Alongside the clinics, Dr Mishra takes part in free health camps in villages around Kanpur — the same consultation, carried to people who would otherwise go without one.

  6. In the press

Local newspapers quote Dr Mishra on everyday health: diet, seasonal illness, and the questions patients actually ask.
